A Personal Project for a Course

This project helped me portray complex visual components and bilingual design in simple and efficient ways. Keeping a consistent visual identity among multiple deliverables and how to corelate with printing specifications were some of the insights gained from this project as well. By far, I was able to visualize the Deep Jungle festival in essence through graphics, colour and typography. The vibrant combination of colours let’s the viewers immerse themselves in the world of colours and wilderness of the deep jungle.

Poster

The poster design features cultural symbols representing Sri Lankan culture, where the festival is originally held, and highlights its main and most popular event—the hot air balloon ride. The brand colors, greens and purples, symbolize the tropical and party culture associated with the event. The bilingual structure allows both tourists and locals to understand and participate in the event.

The devil mask is a famous symbol of Sri Lankan culture, featured in traditional dances, and is also part of the festival where attendees can watch and participate in the performances.

Physical tickets are a key feature of the event due to its adventurous nature and the intention to minimize technology use. The festival emphasizes a connection with nature, taking place in a tropical, tech-free area.

The Branding

The branding for this project was designed to highlight the tropical nature of the event. Many festival activities are closely related to party culture, often represented by green and purple lights. This color scheme inspired the branding. The folder helps attendees easily store all the separate elements of the pamphlet in one place, preventing loss.

The folder's design is highly functional, allowing attendees to securely store their personal items along with festival materials. The pamphlet is also suitable for mass production, as it is made from a single sheet of paper folded according to a template. I personally tested the process by folding multiple pamphlets in just a short time!

Takeaway

Finding a functional and suitable pamphlet design for the festival was definitely challenging. I didn’t want the pamphlet to be just a three-fold brochure holding all the content. I wanted it to convey an adventurous feeling through its design and information pieces.

The printing process was enjoyable, involving multiple test prints to match the correct colors. It's essential to always test print your designs, as many can turn out differently than expected. After several attempts, I was able to create this eye-catching festival brand and materials to support the event.
